The Association of Ontario Land Surveyors is sad to notify you of the death of Robert Grant Boyd, OLS #1208 The family of Robert Grant Boyd (Bob) sadly announces his unexpected passing on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at 88 years of age. Bob was a resident of Spruce Hill Lodge at the time of his death. Left to mourn his passing are his brother, Tom Boyd (Margaret) of Smooth Rock Falls, ON., and his sister, Fran Coulter of Courtenay, BC. Bob's nieces and nephews, Donna Dowe (Jesse) of Edmonton, AB., Sandy Spencer (Dennis) of Kelowna, B.C., John Coulter (Mara) of Ottawa, ON., Catherine Coulter (Derek) of North Vancouver, BC., Stephanie Boyd of Kelowna, BC., and Chad Boyd of Sudbury, ON will miss him. Bob also leaves great nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends from near and far who will miss his presence in their lives. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Lena Boyd, longtime residents of the Porcupine Camp, his sister Flora, and her husband Don Spencer (Calgary, AB), his niece, Karen Coulter (Nanaimo, BC) and Barry Rowley (Winnipeg, MB). Bob was born in Toronto, ON and moved with his family to South Porcupine in 1942. His career as an Ontario Land Surveyor kept him in the Porcupine area until his retirement. While he lived his life within the confines of the Porcupine, Bob had many and varied interests. From flying his own plane, to photography, sailing, and boating on the Frederick House River, he gained experience and widened his horizons. He helped Tom restore an old logging boat they picked up on the shores of the river and spent many an hour cruising the nighthawk and overnighting at his camp, Twin Cedars, on the Whitefish River. Bob travelled a little but enjoyed his own little piece of paradise in Barbados for many years. He learned to play the saxophone and joined a local band. Bob was an avid reader and when he moved to Spruce Hill Lodge became an aficionado of jigsaw puzzles. The family would like to thank the staff at Spruce Hill Lodge for helping make Bob's last few years comfortable and safe. A sincere thank you to the staff in the ER and Palliative Care units at T&DH for their compassionate care as he passed peacefully to his next adventure. There will be a Celebration of Bob's life on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Stinson Funeral Home, 100 Bruce Avenue in South Porcupine, ON P0N1H0 (705) 235-2900 www.stinsonfuneralhome.net Interment will take place at the Whitney Cemetery (Deadman's Point). Following the ceremonies, you are invited to attend a light lunch served at the Airport Hotel in South Porcupine (side entrance). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spruce Hill Lodge, 200 Bruce Avenue, West, South Porcupine, ON., P0N 1H0, or a charity of your choice.
