The Association of Ontario Land Surveyors is sad to notify you of the death of James Douglas Ansley, OLS #983 Doug passed away peacefully at Freeport Hospital on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at the age of 92. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Ann, sons Stephen and Michael (Colleen) Ansley, daughter Christine Ansley (John Clegg), grandson Alex Clegg, and sister Lorraine Klopft. He was predeceased by parents James and Effie Ansley, and his daughter Rebecca Ansley who passed away on September 11, 2022. Doug was a gentleman and a gentle man. He enjoyed the many furry friends who shared their lives with the family and he was an avid bird watcher. The family cottage at Tilden Lake was a favourite place. Doug grew up in Toronto but started his working career with the Ontario Department of Highways, surveying in Northern Ontario, where he apprenticed and achieved his Ontario Land Surveyor papers. In 1960, he took over the survey practice of Bert J. Roe in Kitchener and conducted business until retirement in 1994. They were busy times with the Kitchener Expressway and many subdivisions including Stanley Park. During that time, he also had a survey practice in London, Ontario with partner Ross Clarke. He was a founding member and Vice President of Photomap Air Surveys in Toronto. Doug had a keen interest in the history and geography of Southwestern Ontario. He loved maps and spent many happy hours pouring over maps with family and friends. Doug was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and he was President of the Twin Cities Kiwanis Club the year Kiwanis Park opened. Curling at the Granite Club and Westmount Golf and Country Club was a favourite winter pastime and he was always ready for a game of bridge. There will be a private family Funeral with interment at Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo, which his survey practice laid out. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Humane Society of Kitchener-Waterloo would be most appreciated and may be made through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home (519-745-8445).
