The Association of Ontario Land Surveyors is sad to notify you of the death of Harry Brouwers, OLS #1237 Born December 5, 1924 in Deurne, The Netherlands. Harry died peacefully on August 15, 2023 in Hamilton, Ontario; he spent his last days surrounded by family. Survived by wife Truce (in their 70th year of marriage), children Bruce (Sabina), Michele (Eric) and Melissa (Steve). Beloved Opa to Jacqueline (John), Kevin, Anna, Katherine, Quincy and Abby and more recently, Great-Opa to Felix and Atlas. He grew up in Holland on the farm, went to university, lived through WWII but his adventurous spirit brought him to Canada in 1952, a move he never regretted. He embraced being a Canadian. He landed in Thamesford Ontario, worked on the farm of life-long friends, the Day family, then was joined by his bride-to-be, Truce. They married, moved to London, Ontario (his home for over 55 years) and he started his career as an Ontario Land Surveyor. His meticulous field notes were famous. He worked his entire career for Ontario Hydro, continued to do consulting work, then learned the gentle art of “puttering” in his retirement. His favourite place on earth was his beloved cottage at Port Albert. He loved to tinker, manage the property (and the entire laneway for the neighbours), kayak, go for daily swims, make epic bonfires for his kids and grandkids, and enjoy the sunsets. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and he was beloved by all. Harry was immensely satisfied with his family and his life in Canada. A life well lived. Visitors will be received at Holy Family Parish, 777 Valetta Street, London, on Wednesday, August 23 from 9 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10 am. Reception will follow Mass. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery, 806 Victoria Street, on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed. To join the livestream please CLICK HERE. I am proud to say that I had the honour to know Harry, a quality surveyor and a true gentleman.
